I caught this exchange in a work chat room I sort of half lurk in. I think I am mostly amazed we’re still in this place after this many years. All characters have advanced degrees in a STEM discipline. Names changed to protect the test subjects.
Zeke: This year’s pfizer vaccine is really laying me out
Hortense: Moderna wiped me out so much I wasn’t even able to watch TV
Ingrid: Oof I need to get mine set up. Kids too. Want to make sure we’re max covered when we visit family over the holidays. Trying to find a day now that we can all can be down is tough
Hortense: One person I know with his kids got booster and flu shot, and was down for a day and a half.
Zeke: Yeah. Doubled up too. In a little bit think I’m gonna be down for the count.
Hortense: I usually get mine in the afternoon. Tired that evening, then next day it ranges from fever and chills to extreme exhaustion. Start functioning again by late evening. Its worth it though for the immune system party.
Ingrid: none of the prior shots had any side effects other than an amazing nights sleep. Did you have issues with the other ones?
Rufus: I’m wanting to get novavax. Supposed to have fewer side effects
Hortense: I’ve had issues with every one of the Moderna shots. Always take the day off after. My immune system has such a party hangover.
Thor: I took booster and flu and had no side effects whatsoever.
Francine: Me too. I got mine Tuesday evening, and worked OK on Weds.
Ingrid: So if you don’t get blasted you are OK. Which other than a sore arm and good night’s sleep I see as a bonus.
Og: I had no side effects from flu or covid (did separately). The first couple covid shots did knock me out though.
Ingrid: First one gave me the best night sleep I’d had in YEARS. Thats all.
It’s interesting though. In this place am one of a supposed 2% who did not comply with the mandated shots. Given all the Died Suddenlies we hear of, I’d expect to be hearing (but am perhaps glad not to be) of similar here. Especially with this level of continued devotion to the faith.
Yet out of the half dozen here, I can count… at least 4 of them have had more than one weeklong ‘covid’ sick leave in the past few years. Zeke at least 4, Hortense probably same. Ingrid a couple, and has been sniffling and suffering all fall that I can tell. Thor… three? and I think a trip to the hospital at one point.
Clearly the immune party is worth it.
I think you are missing the point! look at all the sick leave you are missing out on 🤪
I have had a very similar experience, with a similar demographic. So far no deaths among work colleagues, but a fair amount of sick time and doctor appointments.
However both of my daughter's kindergarten teachers died last year in very typical fashion, one just died suddenly, the other had heart failure followed by turbo pancreatic cancer.
