I saw something on Twit/X last night that I found kind of amazing. And probably I’m not the first to observe this, and probably on most people’s scale of amazingness, this doesn’t rank all that high, but… well…
It was Joe’s mouth. It really surprised and bothered me.
Now I know a lot of people have trouble with the things that eventually, and sometimes even successfully, exit his mouth… but no. This was the mouth itself.
Two videos here to illustrate. I hope the links and uploads work — links to the originals are included either way…
The first a press conference about Alexei Navalny:
You don’t need to watch all of this (but you can), so maybe scroll in a minute or so to get to where he is fully burbling. It may help to mute or turn off the volume. Watch his mouth move as he talks, upper lip nearly held in place, note the minimal visibility of upper teeth, overall level (low) of expressivity in his mouth in general in this.
The c-span link for this is here.
OK now the bother-y one. This was a PR thing of some sort that went out on Twit/X. Here it is (try to ignore the subtitles — watch the mouth):
The link to the tweet or post or thingy is here.
Is it me or is this mouth patched in somehow? Is that actually his mouth? Why do this? Is it expected we’ll read along with the text and not see it?
Am I over-sensitive if this immediately invokes:
We’re AI generating Presidents now?
Can we at least make up a good one if we do this?
I'm exposing you to snail biscuits now. The past is past.

Good catch, Flurm. second video, with Joe enunciating properly and making sense, is definitely an AI job. No question.
